Now, it’s time to get ready for your move to Athens! This involves securing your on-campus housing, finding roommates, and ensuring that you’ve covered all your bases before the semester kicks off. At Rambler, we understand that this can be a daunting process.

To assist you, we’ve put together the ultimate guide to freshman housing at UGA!

On-Campus Living Requirement for UGA Freshman

At UGA, all freshman students are required to live in a residence hall on campus. Once you are admitted to the university, you can register for housing. Note that the earlier you register, the earlier your appointment will be to choose your ideal dorm!

Finding Roommates as a Freshman at UGA

Even though you are required to live on campus, that doesn’t mean that you can’t choose your roommates! Once your housing registration is confirmed, you can begin searching for roommates. UGA has resources, such as the online portal The Dawg House, where you can join roommate groups to help in your search!

If you already have roommates in mind upon arrival at UGA, that is fine! When the time comes, you can request to room with them. If you don’t have any roommates in mind, that is fine too! UGA will place you with a random  roommate. 

Throughout this process, continue to check your UGA email which should keep you informed on every step along the way.

While packing for college is one of the most daunting tasks of the entire experience, knowing the essentials is vital to survive your first year in the dorms.

When should I start looking for sophomore year housing? 

Now that you’re all settled in your dorm… it’s time to think about housing for next year! As you probably know, you are not required to live on-campus for your sophomore, junior or senior years. While living on-campus is still technically an option, the majority of students who are not freshmen live in off-campus housing.

With that being said, students usually begin looking for their off-campus housing for the next school year as soon as October. While this may seem early, student housing apartments in Athens fill up quickly and are pretty competitive, so it is best to get an early start!
